PERCEIVED PREGNANCY RELATED COMPLICATIONS AND THEIR PREVENTIVE MEASURES, AMONG EXPECTANT MOTHERS IN BAYERO UNIVERSITY CLINIC, KANO STATE

Abstract

This study examined perceived pregnancy related complications and their preventive measures,

among expectant mothers in Bayero University clinic, Kano state. To achieve the purpose of the

study, two (2) research questions were raised. Descriptive survey design method was adapted for

this study with a population of this study comprising of twenty-five (25) expectant mothers

attending Bayero University Clinic Kano state. The entire population of the study was selected as

the sample size for the study. Data was collected using a researcher-questionnaire on YES and

NO response mode for the purpose of analysis, data from twenty-one respondents were analyzed

using descriptive statistic of frequency count and percentages. The finding of the study revealed

thatexpectant mothers attending Bayero University Clinic do not perceive pregnancy as having

complications. expectant mothers attending Bayero University Clinic perceive pregnancy-related

complication as having preventive measures. Based on the finding of the study, it was concluded

that Expectant mothers attending Bayero University Clinic do not perceive high blood pressure,

preterm delivery, gestational diabetes and miscarriage as pregnancy related complication but

perceive infection as most common pregnancy related complication. The study therefore

recommends that The clinic should intensify health talks on the importance of antenatal care,

nutrition,personl hygiene and management of chronic health conditions. Incorporating interactive

sessions or testimonials could further reinforce positive health behaviors.
